The Monarch Room : NYC
West Chelsea NYC is home to a brand new luxury dining experience. New York hospitality innovators Eric Marx and Lisle Richards of The Metric Group recently unveiled their first restaurant endeavour called The Monarch Room. In collaboration with interior design firm Roman and Williams, a 1930’s industrial era warehouse in West 15th Street has been transformed into a sophisticated Fresh Market American restaurant with Chef Michael Citarella at the helm.
It is obvious that every aspect of The Monarch Room has been diligently considered and designed. An unassuming exterior reveals a glistening marble entryway into a well fitted industrial space. The railroad style seating of the dining room is a geometric succession of dark wood and beautifully executed, stud tufted leather banquettes. The long, symmetrical lines of the dining room are further complemented by a 20 foot mahogany bar that spans the length of the right wall.
The contrast between the grey exposed concrete and the rich elegance of the dining space is aesthetically brave and extremely successful. Roman and Williams have drawn the elegance upwards by installing antique inspired sconces and pendants into the concrete columns and walls. The lights appear vintage at a glance but on closer inspection, their copper and black shades, made entirely of perforated metal are another juxtaposing surprise.
A special mention goes to The Monarch Room’s generous wine list. Featuring over 500 labels comprising both prominent producers and rare vintages, it alone will keep you in the plush leather seats well into the evening.
Salut, TMR.
